STAUNTON – (7:50 p.m.) One northbound lane is open on Interstate 81 at mile marker 230. Earlier this evening both northbound lanes were closed on I-81 in Augusta County at mile marker 230. This location is between exit 227 at Verona and exit 235 at Weyers Cave .
A pickup truck with a trailer ran into the Route 616 bridge over the interstate. Virginia Department of Transportation staff have examined the bridge and say it is safe for traffic to use. A wrecker is at the scene and is assisting with the removal of the vehicle.
Officials at the scene state there is a four-mile back up.
