TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF January 28 – February 1, 2008

Highway work zones in the Staunton District



The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (NEW) Mile markers 95 to 96 – Cleaning and painting bridges, 24 hours a day Sunday through Saturday. Exception times are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.



Interstate 81

* Various locations –Guardrail installation. Alternating lane and shoulder closures both northbound and southbound. Night work, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* (NEW) Mile markers 205 to 208, northbound – Pavement testing operation. Night time mobile single lane closures Monday, Jan. 28 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

* Mile markers 205 to 237 – Northbound and southbound lanes, debris clean up on Wednesday.



Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 42 – Debris pickup in the Swoope area.

* (NEW) Route 250 – Debris pickup in the Swoope area.

* Route 250 –Trucks entering from Route 636 between Route 637 to Route 358 and from Route 608 between Route 608 to Route 1360.

* (NEW) Route 254 – Debris pickup in the Swoope area.

* Route 256 – Shoulder repairs with single lane closures from Route 11 to Route 340. Flaggers will control traffic.

* (NEW) Route 262 – Debris pickup from in Swoope area.

* Route 262 – Debris clean up from I-81 to Route 11 at Verona on Wednesday.

* Route 340 (Rosser Avenue) – Trucks entering from work site from Route 608 to Route 1501 for utility work with flagger traffic control during daylight hours.



Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 647 – Tree trimming. Route 11 to End of State Maintenance weekdays during daylight hours.

* (NEW) Route 648 – Tree trimming. Route 608 to Route 647 weekdays during daylight hours.

* (NEW) Route 695 – Tree trimming. Route 701 to Route 252 weekdays during daylight hours.

* (NEW) Route 794 – Bridge replacement 1.8 miles east of Route 792 and 2.3 miles west of Route 642. Road closed. Eastbound traffic detour: From Route 642 to Route 792 ( Sangers Lane ) to Route 250 ( Jefferson Hwy ). East on 250 to Route 642 ( Barrenridge Road ). North on Route 642 to Route 794 ( Sangers Lane ). Westbound traffic detour: From Route 794/642 intersection south on Route 642 to Route 250. West on 250 to Route 792. North on Route 792 to 794. Detour is 4.4 miles.

* Route 794 – Road closed for bridge replacement beginning Tuesday, January 22, from 1.8 miles east of Route 792 to 2.3 miles west of Route 642. Detour signs posted. Estimated completion is late February 2008.

* (NEW) Route 795 – Shoulder repair with lane closures controlled by flaggers between Route 796 and 640.

* (NEW) Route 800 – Tree trimming. Route 11 north to south weekdays during daylight hours.

* Route 819 – Tree trimming. Route 252 to End of State Maintenance weekdays during daylight hours.

* Route 831 – Tree trimming. Route 340 to Route 654 weekdays during daylight hours.

* (NEW) Route 872 – Tree trimming. Route 613 to Route 693 weekdays during daylight hours.

* (NEW) Various Roads – Shoulder repairs, patching, and machining non-hard surface roads. Work will be weekdays during daylight hours.

* (NEW) Various Roads – Brush cutting by inmates and VDOT crews with traffic controlled by signs and flaggers.
