Burglary Alarm leads to Arrest

On 01/07/08 at approximately 11:30 P.M. Waynesboro Police responded to a burglar alarm at Rockfish Gap Outfitters located at 1461 E. Main Street. Upon arrival officers found that the front door had been breeched and a bicycle belonging to the store was protruding through the broken glass. At this point officers secured the perimeter and with appropriate personnel conducted a search of the interior of the building. During the search officers discovered a very intoxicated male subject who was later identified as 33 year old Jose E. Rodriguez of Waynesboro. Mr. Rodriguez was taken into custody without incident and due to injuries received to his face during the break-in was transported to AMC where he was subsequently treated and released. At the hospital it was discovered that Rodriguez had concealed items from the store on his person and once released he was taken before the magistrate where warrants were obtained for B&E with Intent to Commit Larceny, Larceny, Destruction of Private Property and Drunk In Public.

He was held without bond at MRRJ.



Armed Robbery

On 01/07/08 at approximately 11:00 P.M three suspects, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun accosted a 19 year old pizza delivery driver in the 200 block of port republic road. After luring the victim, who had exited his vehicle to make the delivery, around the side of a building the gun was brandished and the suspects ordered the victim to turn away from them while the perpetrators removed money from his pocket and took the pizza he was carrying. The suspects fled the scene on foot in the direction of Shiloh Ave and the victim was able to return to his vehicle and leave the area, when he returned to the pizza shop to report the incident.

Description of the suspects are as follows:

1. light skinned black male black pants, black hoodie, black beanie cap, bandana or covering over nose an mouth.

2. male 6’ “skinny” dressed the same

3. black male, 5’6”, dressed the same

Officers collected evidence in the area of the scene and along the route of escape which will be sent to the state lab for analysis.

This case remains under investigation.
