Hollister Plant in Stuarts Draft hazmat spill - August 28




Thursday 28, 2008- 12:30 p.m The Hollister Plant in Stuarts Draft, had to be evacuated after a solvent called tetrahydrafuran was spilled from a glass jar.
Three workers close to the spill were taken to Augusta Medical Center for evaluation.





Duke road wreck - August 28



Sunday 24,2008 - 10:48 am Waynesboro police have released information on a wreck that happened on Sunday,

"The accident happened in the 1700 Block of Duke road at approximately 10:48 am on Sunday 8/24/08. A single vehicle (2004 Chevy Venture) was traveling East on Duke road and ran off the roadway. The vehicle rolled over once and struck a fence. The driver of the vehicle was 66 year old Mary Bosserman Henkel of Waynesboro. She was transported from the scene by EMS. Two passengers were also transported from the scene by EMS. One passenger is a 72 year old female and the other passenger is a 9 year old male. The condition of all three is unknown at this time."

House Fire Fountain Cave Rd - August 24



Sunday 24, 2008 - 4:45 am Fountain Cave Rd. The homeowner and his daughter were in the home when the fire started. They got out, with out injury but they lost everything. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

Highway work zones in the Staunton District



The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Various locations – Sign repair, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Shoulder closures.



Interstate 81

* Mile marker 222 to 227, southbound – Milling, paving, and guardrail replacement, Monday to Thursday night p.m. to 7 a.m. Operations to begin Tuesday, August 19 and last approximately four weeks.

* Mile marker 237 to 205, northbound and southbound – Ditch cleaning, right shoulder closure, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday.

* Various locations – Sign repair, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Shoulder closures.

Southbound traffic take Route 644 to Route 256 east to Route 340 to Route 778 west to Route 825. Detour and Road Closed signs will be posted.

MEDIA RELEASE

On 8-4-08 at approximately 12:39 a.m. Officer’s responded to Little Ceasers Pizza located at 1327 W. Broad Street for a fire. Upon arrival a burn victim was discovered behind the business. The victim, Dale Dedrick 9-26-61 of Waynesboro, was transported to AMC and subsequently transferred to UVA. The preliminary investigation into the incident appears that the fire was accidental, and that Dedrick was sleeping behind the building. The structure sustained minor damage as a result of the fire.

WAYNESBORO POLICE DEPARTMENT
MEDIA RELEASE

On 8-1-08 at 7:51 p.m. the Waynesboro Police Department responded to the 200 block of N. Charlotte Avenue. Officers were responding for a report of a suicidal subject who had barricaded himself inside a residence, they were cautioned that the subject had weapons. The area was blocked off of vehicular and pedestrian traffic for approximately an hour while the incident was investigated.
The subject in question was taken into custody at 8:44 p.m. and subsequently transported to Augusta Medical Center for evaluation. No criminal charges were placed and no one was injured in the incident.
