Monday Feb. 12, 2007- 7:15 a.m. Near Harriston on Rt. 340 a fatal head on collision involving 2 vehicles killing 1 and sending others to the hospital. The Dodge Durango passed through a guard rail sending it over an embankment. Due to the accident traffic in front of Jollett Springs Trailer Park was congested. Emergency personnel and police directed traffic on 340 in order to keep traffic flowing.
Update: The driver that was killed, 31-year-old Christy Harbeck was not wearing a seat belt when she was ejected for the SUV that landed in a ravine. Harbeck was headed south on U.S. 340 when her SUV crossed into the other lane. The Durango sideswiped a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer and then struck a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. This caused the Blazer to overturn and end up on its side. Harbeck's Dodge Durango continued another 100 feet and crashed through a guardrail, falling down the ravine. Four victims from Grottoes, Christy Lamb, 28, Sandra Kelley 49, Kelley's 3-year-old granddaughter, Christy Lamb, 28 were taken from the scene to Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg with slight injuries.
