ONE LANE OPEN ON I-81 IN AREA OF TRACTOR TRAILER ACCIDENT - September 2

BOTH LANES OPEN AT I-81 NORTHBOUND ACCIDENT SITE IN STAUNTON



STAUNTON – Both lanes are now open with no traffic backups on Interstate 81 in the Staunton area at mile marker 221, northbound.



Earlier this morning, an accident occurred near the 221 mile marker, northbound on I-81 in the Staunton area. Officials at the scene say a car ran into guardrail along the road. Two tractor trailers crashed in to the first vehicle, which resulted in a fire. Early reports from officials at the scene say there is a HAZMAT spill of approximately 600 gallons of diesel fuel.



There is a bridge at the accident site. Virginia Department of Transportation officials have examined the bridge and report it can carry traffic.



The accident location is in the vicinity of exit 222 on I-81 at Route 250.
