Discharging Weapon

On Sept.12th, 2007, last night, at approximately 8:30 P.M., Waynesboro Police responded to a residence in the 500 block of N. Commerce Ave. in reference to gunshots. Upon arrival Officers found a vehicle directly in front of the residence that had been struck by several rounds and evidence that other round(s) had been fired at the house. There were no reported injuries. Simultaneously, officers were notified that a suspect vehicle had been seen turning onto Tenth St. from S.Delphine Ave. and additional officers were directed to that area. Immediately upon arriving in area of the Tenth Street Apts., an officer spotted a parked vehicle matching the description and ordered a single occupant to exit the vehicle, subsequently taking him into investigative custody without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed a small caliber handgun, ammunition and spent shell casings which police seized as evidence. In addition it was found that the occupant in custody was currently wanted by Waynesboro Police for Felony - Participating in a Street Gang and Dissuading a Witness which occurred on April 5th, 2007at the Wilco Hess store on E. Main Street. Leslie Terrell Wilmott, 21 years of age, who resides at 927 West Beverly Street in Staunton was arrested on the two outstanding warrants and subsequently held without bond. He remains a suspect in the shooting and further warrants may be pending relating to that incident.

Additionally, Police have identified another suspect in the shooting on N. Commerce who remains at large. A warrant for “Shooting Into an Occupied Dwelling” has been issued for James Henry Crawford,18, of Waynesboro. Police are asking anyone who may know the whereabouts of Crawford or additional information regarding this case to contact the department or Crimestoppers.

Additional suspect(s) may be involved and the Investigation continues.
