TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF July 23-27 2007

Highway work zones in the Staunton District



The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 93 – Alternating lane and shoulder closures at the underpass on Route 834 (Chickory Hill) due to cleaning and painting bridge Sunday through Saturday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with flagger traffic control.



Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile markers 220 to 237 – Debris clean up on Friday, July 27.

* Various bridges – Bridge deck maintenance on bridges north and southbound with one lane traffic from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning.

* (NEW) Mowing around guardrail.



Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 42 – Mowing from Route 250 to Rockingham County line.

* Route 250 – Expect delays due to trucks entering from Route 636 between Route 637 to Route 358 Monday through Friday.

* Route 252 – Mowing from Staunton City limits to Rockbridge County line.

* Route 254 – One lane traffic from Route 693 to Route 42 due to paving, shoulder work, and line marking from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday with traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot truck..

* Route 340 (Rosser Avenue) – Trucks entering from worksite from Route 608 to Route 1501 for utility work in the street with flagger traffic control during daylight hours Monday through Friday.

* (NEW) Surface treatment Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot truck.





Secondary Roads

* Route 602 (Walkers Creek Road) – Road closed due to bridge replacement at .20 mile north of Route 681 (Mt. Hermon Road) to 3.0 miles south of Route 682 (McKinley Road) Monday, July 16 through Friday, August 31. Detour is five miles long: Southbound traffic should detour using Route 682 east ( McKinley Road ) to Route 252 south ( Middlebrook Road ) to Route 681 west ( Mt. Hermon Road ) to Route 602. Northbound traffic should detour using Route 681 west to Route 252 north to Route 682 west to Route 602.

* Route 616 – Spot leveling in Weyers Cave Area Monday through Friday with one lane road.

* Route 616 (Dam Town Road) – Road closed from Route 777 to Route 926 in the Fort Defiance area Wednesday, July 25 at 7 a.m. to Friday, July 27 at 5:30 p.m. to replace a structure with concrete pipe. Signs and a detour will be in place.

* Route 636 – Shoulder closure due to road widening from Route 285/608 to 300-feet east of the AMC Hospital entrance.

* Route 650 (North Oak Lane) – Road closure over South River due to bridge replacement from Route 624 to Route 664 with signs posted through October 15, 2007. Traffic detoured on Route 624 ( Mt. Torrey Road ) and Route 664 ( Lyndhurst Road ).

* Route 727 ( Wolfe Ridge Road ) – Road closure due to bridge replacement in the town of Sangersville through August 10, 2007. Signs will be posted and a detour will be in place.

* Route 778 – Spot leveling in Weyers Cave Area Monday through Friday with one lane road.

* Route 834 – Alternating lane and shoulder closures due to clean and painting bridge Sunday through Saturday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with flagger traffic control.

* Route 935 – Work zone, expect truck entering road between Route 608 and Route 1043. Signs will be posted to alert motorists.

* Various Roads – Pipe cleaning and mowing. Surface treatment Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot truck.





HIGHLAND COUNTY
Primary Roads

* Route 84 – Shoulder work from Route 220 to West Virginia line with one lane traffic using flagger traffic control.

* Route 220 – Pipe replacement south Monday through Friday with one lane traffic using flagger traffic control.

* (NEW) Route 220 – Bridge repair from .45 mile from Route 632 south to 1.05 mile from Route 632 north. Lane closures beginning on July 19 at 8 a.m. Traffic controlled with signals.



Secondary Roads

* Route 607 – Ditch work with one lane traffic using flagger traffic control.

* (NEW) Route 614 north – Pipe replacement. Single lane traffic.

* Route 637 – Ditch work with one lane traffic using flagger traffic control.

* Various Roads – Mowing and hauling dirt on various dirt roads.





ROCKINGHAM COUNTY
Interstate 81

* Exit 257 (Mauzy) – Bridge work on Route 11 over Interstate 81 Monday through Friday with shoulder closure north and south on I-81 with one lane closure on Route 11 with flagger traffic control.

* Various bridges – Bridge deck maintenance on bridges north and southbound with one lane traffic from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning.



Primary Roads

* Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Roadway construction and paving near Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) with the left lane closed eastbound Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. . Utility relocation Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the right lane closed in the westbound lane.

* (NEW) Route 259 ( Lee Street , Broadway) – Eastbound lanes, shoulder work from Route 617 (North Sunset Drive) to Broadway western town limits. Single lane traffic, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flagger traffic control.



Secondary Roads

* Route 613 (Turleytown Road) – Paving between Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road) and Route 753 (Wengers Mill Road) with one lane traffic using flagger traffic control Friday, July 20 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 620 – Bridge over Smith Creek. Bridge deck maintenance from .22 mile north of Route 718 to 0.01 mile south of Route 724. Single lane closure with flagger traffic control.

* Route 644 ( Resort Drive ) – Roadway reconstruction between Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) and Route 646 west ( Bloomer Springs Road ) with intermittent flagger traffic control Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 716 (Beulah Road) – Roadway reconstruction from Route 717 (Indian Trail Road) to Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) with one lane road using flagger traffic control Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 809 – Bridge deck maintenance on bridge over Linville Creek at 0.47 mile west of Route 42 with one lane closure using “stop and proceed when way is clear” method.

* Route 910 (Switchboard Road) – Roadway reconstruction at 0.20 mile south of Route 763 (Mount Clinton Pike) with one lane traffic using flagger traffic control Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Various Roads – Mowing, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, patching, ditching and grading. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
