Joint Investigation by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and Staunton Police Department - July 18

A joint investigation conducted by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and the Staunton Police Department into the burglary of several new homes under construction has led to four felony warrants being obtained for Walter Burnette Chaplin of Staunton. Chaplin is charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of grand larceny. Chaplin is described as a 35 year old while male, 5’9”, 200 lbs, brown hair and eyes.

Anyone with information as to Chaplin’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Staunton Police Department at (540) 332-3842, the Augusta County Sheriff’s office at 245-5333, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 322-2017. Persons providing information leading to the arrest of the suspect will be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.00.
