TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF April 9-13, 2007

Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.


AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Exit 221 – Bridge painting on eastbound ramp over Interstate 81. Shoulder work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday with no traffic disruptions. Alternating lane closures on Interstate 81 north and south Tuesday through Thursday 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.

* (NEW) Mile marker 220 to mile marker 237 – Debris cleanup Friday, April 13.

* (NEW) Various Locations – Debris cleanup at the Verona Area Headquarters and the Mint Springs Area Headquarters Monday through Friday.

* (NEW) Various locations – Alternating lane and shoulder closures north and south for guardrail replacement from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday, April 8 through Wednesday, April 18.

Primary Roads

* Route 250 – Expect delays due to trucks entering from Route 636 between Route 637 to Route 358 Monday through Saturday.

* (NEW) Route 340 – Brush removal from Waynesboro to Rockingham County line Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11 with single lane road.

* Route 340 (Rosser Avenue) – Trucks entering from worksite from Route 608 to Route 1501 for utility work in the street with flagger traffic control during daylight hours Monday through Saturday.

* Various Roads – Debris pickup and pipe cleaning.

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 608 – Shoulder improvement from 0.2 mile south of Route 891 to 0.5 mile north of Route 666 Monday through Thursday with single lane traffic using flagger traffic control.

* (NEW) Route 612 – Machining from Route 340 east to end of state maintenance Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11 with minor delays.

* Route 612 – Debris pickup at Verona Area Headquarters, Moscow Area Headquarters and Swoope Area Headquarters Monday through Friday.

* (NEW) Route 614 – Machining from Route 340 east to end of state maintenance Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11 with minor delays.

* Route 614 – Brush cutting from Route 340 to Route 663 Thursday, April 12 with single lane road.

* (NEW) Route 616 – Machining from Route 340 east to end of state maintenance Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11 with minor delays.

* Route 650 (North Oak Lane) – Road closure over South River due to bridge replacement from Route 624 to Route 664 with signs posted through October 15, 2007. Traffic detoured on Route 624 ( Mt. Torrey Road ) and Route 664 ( Lyndhurst Road ).

* Route 693 – Debris pickup at Swoope Area Headquarters.

* Route 708 – Expect delays due to alternating lane closures on bridge over Edison Creek for repainting bridge from Sunday to Saturday with flagger traffic control during daylight hours.

* Route 716 – Road closed between Route 250 and Route 629 Thursday, April 5 at 7 a.m. for bridge maintenance. Detour in place with road opening by 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.

* Route 720 – Debris pickup at Swoope Area Headquarters.

* Route 727 ( Wolfe Ridge Road ) – Road closure due to bridge replacement in the town of Sangersville through August 10, 2007. Signs will be posted and a detour will be in place.

* Route 782 – Ditching from Route 617 to Route 616 Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11 with single lane road.

* Route 811 – Debris pickup at Swoope Area Headquarters.

* (NEW) Route 861 – Machining from Route 340 east to end of state maintenance Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11 with minor delays.

* Route 935 – Expect delays due to trucks entering from worksite from Route 608 to Route 1043. Signs will be posted. No work Monday, April 9 through Friday, April 13.

* Various Roads – Debris pickup, pipe cleaning, ditching, patching and shoulder work.
