Hiner broke down a door and got into the supervisor’s office. Pressed the shotgun against the supervisor’s chest and then threatened to kill him. When Hiner became distracted, the supervisor got free.
Augusta County Sheriff’s deputy used beanbag bullets to get David Hiner under control and arrest him. The incident lasted nearly an hour. He was hit twice with beanbag bullets fired by a deputy on a bridge near the Grand Caverns offices. The second beanbag bullets knocked Hiner to the ground.
David Hiner was being held in the Middle River Regional Jail on, 11 charges.
Charges include two charges of brandishing a firearm at law enforcement officers, two counts of breaking and entering to commit a felony and two counts of possessing a firearm while committing a felony. He is also charged with two counts of assault and battery, two counts of brandishing a firearm and attempted murder.
The two Grand Caverns employees who were assaulted did not suffered serious injures.
