Highway work zones in the Staunton District
The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.
AUGUSTA COUNTY
Interstate 64
* Exit 221 – Bridge painting on eastbound ramp over Interstate 81. Shoulder work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday with no traffic disruptions. Alternating lane closures on Interstate 81 north and south Monday through Thursday 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.
Interstate 81
* (NEW) Mile marker 220.0 to mile marker 237.2 – Mobile operation due to bridge sweeping northbound and southbound Monday through Friday with single lane road.
* Rockbridge County line to Rockingham County line – Debris cleanup north and southbound Monday through Friday.
* (NEW) Various locations – Vegetation management with mobile lane closures April 2 and April 3 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weather permitting.
Primary Roads
* Route 11 – Tree removal and brush cutting from Route 256 to Rockingham County line Monday through Wednesday with single lane road.
* Route 11 – Debris pickup Monday through Friday.
* Route 250 – Expect delays due to trucks entering from Route 636 between Route 637 to Route 358 Monday through Saturday.
* (NEW) Route 254 – Bridge deck maintenance on bridge over Interstate 81 at 0.07 mile east of Staunton city limits with single lane closure using flagger traffic control.
* Route 256 – Debris pickup Monday through Friday.
* Route 275 – Debris pickup Monday through Friday.
* Route 340 – Debris pickup Monday through Friday.
* Route 340 (Rosser Avenue) – Trucks entering from worksite from Route 608 to Route 1501 for utility work in the street with flagger traffic control during daylight hours Monday through Saturday.
* Various Roads – Debris pickup.
Secondary Roads
* Route 605 – Ditching from Route 865 to Route 608 Monday through Friday with single lane road.
* Route 607 (Mount Solon Road) – Road closed due to bridge deck replacement between Route 739 (Curry Road) and Route 741 (Old Quarry Road) April 2 through April 6. Westbound traffic should detour to Route 739 south to Route 741 north to Route 607. Eastbound traffic should detour on Route 741 south to Route 739 east to Route 607.
* (NEW) Route 608 (Cold Springs Road) – Road Closed due to box culvert installation between Route 891 (Newton Lane) and Route 666 (Lofton Road) April 16 through April 20. Northbound traffic should detour on Route 666 ( Lofton Road ) west to Route 11 ( Lee Jackson Highway ) north to Route 662 ( Greenville School Road ) east to Route 608. Southbound traffic should detour on Route 662 west to Route 11 south to Route 666 east to Route 608.
* Route 612 – Debris pickup at Verona Area Headquarters, Moscow Area Headquarters and Swoope Area Headquarters.
* Route 614 – Tree removal and brush cutting from Route 340 to Route 615 Wednesday through Friday with single lane road.
* Route 614 – Brush cutting from Route 340 to Route 663 Monday through Friday with single lane road.
* Route 636 – Alternating lane closure due to paving and turn lane construction Monday, March 12 through Friday, April 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with flagger traffic control and signs controlling traffic.
* Route 650 (North Oak Lane) – Road closure over South River due to bridge replacement from Route 624 to Route 664 with signs posted through October 15, 2007. Traffic detoured on Route 624 ( Mt. Torrey Road ) and Route 664 ( Lyndhurst Road ).
* Route 693 – Debris pickup at Swoope Area Headquarters.
* (NEW) Route 705 – Road closed due to road repair between Route 706 and Route 869 Monday, March 26 through Monday, April 9 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
* Route 708 – Expect delays due to alternating lane closures on bridge over Edison Creek for repainting bridge from Monday to Sunday with flagger traffic control during daylight hours.
* (NEW) Route 716 – Road closed between Route 250 and Route 629 Thursday, April 5 at 7 a.m. for bridge maintenance. Detour in place with road opening by 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. Expect delays due to alternating lane closures on bridge over Ramsey’s Draft for repainting bridge Monday through Sunday with flagger traffic control during daylight hours.
* Route 720 – Debris pickup at Swoope Area Headquarters.
* Route 727 ( Wolfe Ridge Road ) – Road closure due to bridge replacement in the town of Sangersville March 5 through August 10, 2007. Signs will be posted and a detour will be in place.
* Route 742 – Tree removal and brush cutting from Route 11 to Route 927 Wednesday through Friday with single lane road.
* (NEW) Route 747 – Stone application to low shoulders from Route 42 to Route 747 and Route 731 to Route 809 Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with signs posted.
* (NEW) Route 760 – Stone application to low shoulders from Route 42 to Route 747 and Route 731 to Route 809 Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with signs posted.
* (NEW) Route 781 – Bridge deck maintenance on bridge over Interstate 81 at 0.47 mile east of Route 11 with single lane closure and flagger traffic control.
* Route 782 – Tree removal and brush cutting from Route 612 to Route 785 and from Route 785 to Route 619 Wednesday through Friday with single lane road.
* Route 782 – Ditching from Route 617 to Route 616 Monday through Friday with single lane road.
* Route 786 – Tree removal and brush cutting from Route 788 to Route 608 Wednesday through Friday with single lane road.
* Route 811 – Debris pickup at Swoope Area Headquarters.
* Route 865 – Tree removal and brush cutting from Route 612 to Route 619 and from Route 617 to Route 616 Wednesday through Friday with single lane road.
* (NEW) Route 897 – Ditching from Route 927 to the dead end Monday through Friday with single lane road.
* Route 926 – Tree removal and brush cutting from Route 616 to Route 777 Wednesday through Friday with single lane closure.
* Route 935 – Expect delays due to trucks entering from worksite from Route 608 to Route 1043. Signs will be posted. No work Monday, April 2 through Friday, April 6.
* Various Roads – Scraping dirt roads, brush cutting, debris pickup, pipe cleaning, patching and shoulder work.
