TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF September 3-7, 2007

Highway work zones in the Staunton District



The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* No activity reported.



Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205 to 237 – Debris pickup Wednesday, Sept. 5.

* Various Locations – Bridge deck maintenance north and southbound with one lane traffic 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday night through Friday morning.



Primary Roads

* Route 11 – Guardrail weed-eating in the Verona area Tuesday through Friday.

* Route 250 – Minor delays due to trucks entering from Route 636 between Route 637 and Route 358 Tuesday through Friday.

* (NEW) Route 262 – Delays due to one lane traffic for paving southbound from Route 11 to Interstate 81 Tuesday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Route 262 – Debris pickup from I-81 to Route 11 Wednesday, Sept. 5.

* Route 276 – Guardrail weed-eating in the Verona area Tuesday through Friday.

* Route 340 (Rosser Avenue) – Trucks entering from work site from Route 608 to Route 1501 for paving with flaggers and work during daylight hours Tuesday through Friday.



Secondary Roads

* Route 602 (Walkers Creek Road) – Road closed due to bridge replacement at .20 mile north of Route 681 (Mt. Hermon Road) to 3.0 miles south of Route 682 (McKinley Road) Monday, September 3 through Friday, Sept. 7. Detour is five miles long: Southbound traffic should detour using Route 682 east to Route 252 south ( Middlebrook Road ) to Route 681 west to Route 602. Northbound traffic should detour using Route 681 west to Route 252 north to Route 682 west to Route 602.

* Route 631 – Drainage improvements and road alignment for the construction of a turn lane at Route 285 and Route 608. Flagger traffic control with estimated completion mid-October 2007. Motorist should be aware of new traffic pattern.

* (NEW) Route 634 (Patton Farm Road) – Road closed due to railroad crossing repair between Route 633 and Route 639 in Fishersville area Thursday, Sept. 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 636 – Shoulder closure east and west due to road widening from Route 285/1377 to 300-feet east of the AMC Hospital entrance Tuesday, Sept. 4 through Thursday, Sept. 20.

* Route 650 (North Oak Lane) – Road closure over South River due to bridge replacement from Route 624 to Route 664 with signs posted through October 15, 2007. Traffic detoured on Route 624 ( Mt. Torrey Road ) and Route 664 ( Lyndhurst Road ).

* Route 780 – Ditching and patching between Route 781 and Route 906 with lane closures Tuesday through Friday.

* Route 785 – Grading and drainage work with lane closures with flagger traffic control through Friday, November 2, 2007.

* (NEW) Route 797 – Grading and drainage work with lane closures from Route 608 to Route 796 with flaggers Sunday, Sept. 2 through Saturday, Sept. 8. No work Monday, Sept. 3.

* (NEW) Route 823 – Trucks entering from work site and installing a sewer line between Route 1620 to the dead end Tuesday through Friday.

* Various Roads – Mowing south of Route 612 in the Barrenridge area Tuesday through Friday. Spot leveling, tree removal, mowing and patching Tuesday through Friday. Surface treatment Tuesday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with flaggers and pilot truck controlling traffic.
