Burglar Apprehended - August 16

Waynesboro Police responded to a burglary in progress call to a dentist office in the 400 block of S. Linden Ave at around 3:30 a.m. this morning. Upon arrival officers observed a window on the rear of the building which appeared to have been forced open and a trash can below the window appeared to have been used to climb into the office. Officers secured the exterior of the building and observed a male subject carrying a book bag moving around inside while turning on lights in various parts of the office. The officers subsequently announced their presence and observed as the subject attempted to open a window in an effort to escape. Failing this, the subject opened a side door and was taken into custody without incident. Upon arrest the subject no longer carried the book bag but it was subsequently located inside of the business and contained a semi-automatic pistol, several magazines as well as 9 vials of Lidocain that officers discovered had been stolen from the office. A revolver was also discovered in the book bag that investigation revealed had been brought into the business by the suspect.
The subject arrested is identified as Mark Andrew Campbell, 26, of Oak Ave. in the City of Waynesboro. He has been charged with Breaking and Entering While Armed with a Deadly Weapon and Grand Larceny – Theft of a Firearm.
