TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF August 20-24, 2007

Highway work zones in the Staunton District



The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (NEW) Mile marker 93 – Alternating lane and shoulder closures on Route 834 (Chickory Hill) due to cleaning and painting bridge from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Saturday. No lane closures schedule Saturday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.



Interstate 81

* Various Locations – Alternating lane and shoulder closures north and southbound due to guardrail replacement from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday night through Saturday morning.

* Various Locations – Bridge deck maintenance north and southbound with one lane traffic 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday night through Friday morning.



Primary Roads

* Route 11 – Guardrail weed-eating in the Verona area.

* Route 250 – Expect delays due to trucks entering from Route 636 between Route 637 to Route 358 Monday through Friday.

* Route 256 – Guardrail weed-eating in the Verona area.

* Route 340 – Guardrail weed-eating in the Verona area.

* Route 340 (Rosser Avenue) – Trucks entering from worksite from Route 608 to Route 1501 for utility work in the street with flagger traffic control during daylight hours Monday through Friday.

* (NEW) Various Roads – Debris cleanup at the Fishersville Area Headquarters and Swoope Area Headquarters.



Secondary Roads

* Route 602 (Walkers Creek Road) – Road closed due to bridge replacement at .20 mile north of Route 681 (Mt. Hermon Road) to 3.0 miles south of Route 682 (McKinley Road) Monday, August 20 through Friday, Sept. 7. Detour is five miles long: Southbound traffic should detour using Route 682 east to Route 252 south ( Middlebrook Road ) to Route 681 west to Route 602. Northbound traffic should detour using Route 681 west to Route 252 north to Route 682 west to Route 602.

* (NEW) Route 608 – Debris cleanup at the Fishersville Area Headquarters.

* Route 608 (Tinkling Springs) – Milling with shoulder closure northbound due to construction of right turn lane near Route 635 Monday through Friday.

* (NEW) Route 610 – Debris cleanup at the Fishersville Area Headquarters.

* (NEW) Route 612 – Debris cleanup at the Swoope Area Headquarters.

* Route 631 – Drainage improvements and road alignment for the constructions of a turn lane at Route 285 and Route 608. Flagger traffic control with estimated completion mid-October 2007. Motorist should be aware of new traffic pattern.

* Route 636 – Shoulder closure east and west due to road widening from Route 285/1377 to 300-feet east of the AMC Hospital entrance Monday, August 20 through Tuesday, August 28.

* (NEW) Route 647 – Debris cleanup at the Fishersville Area Headquarters.

* (NEW) Route 648 – Debris cleanup at the Fishersville Area Headquarters.

* Route 650 (North Oak Lane) – Road closure over South River due to bridge replacement from Route 624 to Route 664 with signs posted through October 15, 2007. Traffic detoured on Route 624 ( Mt. Torrey Road ) and Route 664 ( Lyndhurst Road ).

* (NEW) Route 693 – Debris cleanup at the Swoope Area Headquarters.

* (NEW) Route 720 – Debris cleanup at the Swoope Area Headquarters.

* Route 778 – Spot leveling from Route 750 to Route 777 with one lane road.

* Route 785 – Grading and drainage work with lane closures with flagger traffic control Monday, August 20 through Friday, November 2, 2007.

* Route 797 – Grading, drainage work and surface treatment with alternating lane closures from Route 608 to Route 796 with flagger traffic control Sunday through Saturday.

* (NEW) Route 811 – Debris cleanup at the Swoope Area Headquarters.

* (NEW) Route 834 – Alternating lane and shoulder closures due to cleaning and painting bridge from 7 a.m. to 7 a.m. with flagger traffic control Sunday through Saturday.

* Various Roads – Mowing east of Route 340 in the Crimora area. Shoulder work, patching, brush cutting, and weed eating around guardrail. Surface treatment Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot truck.
