The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Staunton District is announcing new area headquarters service area boundaries in eight counties.
These boundaries will be implemented on a staggered basis, with the first occurring on April 10, 2007. The new boundaries are part of VDOT’s consolidation plan.
Area headquarters consolidation is the result of plans to outsource interstate maintenance by July 1, 2009, as directed by Virginia law. Also the consolidation is part of streamlining initiatives as a component of VDOT’s 2007 business plan.
The boundaries have been developed to get the best coverage for the new organization, and in some cases cross county lines. This transition is taking place between snow season and hurricane season to minimize risk.
The affected counties are:
- Frederick
- Shenandoah
- Rockingham
- Augusta
- Highland
- Rockbridge
- Alleghany
- Bath
No area headquarters boundary changes will be made in Clarke, Warren or Page counties.
