Wilson Trucking Foursome Wins Mental Health Association of Augusta Golf Tournament

STAUNTON - The thirteenth annual Pete Giesen Mental Health Association of Augusta Golf Tournament was held May 9th at the Country Club of Staunton to raise money to benefit the Mental Health Association of Augusta, a United Way Agency.

Dane Wade and three other players from his foursome won the tourney and the Corporate Trophy by finishing with a net of 54. The others in the foursome included John Lane, Mark Linhoss and Grey Witt. The team won a $300 Golf Shop Gift Certificate and the Winners’ Names were engraved on the MHA-A Tourney Plaque and each received individual plaques for winning the Corporate Trophy.

The four-man team tourney is named after Del. Giesen, a long time friend of the Mental Health Association of Augusta and a strong advocate for the cause of mental health. Giesen served for more than 30 years in the Virginia Legislature from 1963 to 1995.

In 1974, Giesen was the recipient of the MHA’s highest award, the J. Lewis Gibbs Award, and he serves as a consultant to the MHA Board of Directors.

The second-place team consisting of Gil Ayres, Marvin, Rilinger, Ken Browne and Jeremy Fogus shooting a 56 and won a $200 Golf Shop Gift Certificate. Shooting a 56, The Whites, consisting of Dot White, Bill White, Charlie Martin and Joe Moore, finished third and won a $100 Golf Shop Gift Certificate.

Winning the individual trophies and gifts were Jeremy Fogus and Charlie Martin. Martin won the closet-to-the pin and Fogus the longest drive contest.

The Wilson Trucking Team of Dane Wade, John Lane, Mark Linhoss and Grey Well had the most eagles and received trophies for that accomplishment.

The Natural Bridge Chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans assisted with the event as did numerous hole sponsors and others donating to the MHA-A’s annual event.
