TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF June 23-27, 2008
Highway work zones in the Staunton District
The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

AUGUSTA COUNTY
Interstate 64
No lane closures planned.
Interstate 81
* (NEW) Mile markers 215 to 205 southbound – Ditch cleaning, right shoulder closure, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday.
Primary Roads
* Route 11 – Debris pickup on Wednesday.
* Route 250 – Trucks entering highway from Route 636 between Routes 637 and 358 and from Route 608 between Routes 608 and 1360 for roadway construction.
* Route 256 – At Route 276, grading and drainage work. Lane closures with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Minor delays
* Route 256 – Paving from Grottoes to Weyers Cave, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic controlled with pilot truck and flaggers. Completion is late June.
* Route 262– Debris pickup on Wednesday.
* Route 340 – Debris pickup on Wednesday.
* Various roads – Litter and debris pick up.
Secondary Roads
* (NEW) Route 611 – Ditching from Route 340 to Route 622. Work is Monday to Tuesday. Flatter traffic control.
* Route 612 – Debris pickup on Wednesday in the Fishersville area.
* Route 612 – Bridges over I-81, .3 mile west of Route 792, bridge deck maintenance. Single lane closure with flagger traffic control. Possible 24/7 lane closures.
* (NEW) Route 613 – Spot leveling.
* Route 616 – At Middle River Bridge , bridge repairs. Single lane traffic with temporary signals controlling traffic.
* Route 616 – Bridge over I-81, bridge deck maintenance. Single lane traffic with flagger traffic control. Bridge located .09 mile west of Route 777. Possible night time closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
* Route 621 ( Sandy Ridge Road ) – Trucks entering highway from work site between Route 823 and Route 611 for roadway construction.
* (NEW) Route 622 – Patching from Route 611 to Route 622 at end of state maintenenace. Work is Wednesday to Friday. Flagger traffic control.
* (NEW) Route 655 – Spot leveling.
* Route 693 – Spot leveling.
* Route 696 – Road closed for reconstruction project from Route 11 to Route 748 in Mount Sidney area. Expected completion is August 15. Motorists are advised to use Route 626 and Route 748 for detour.
* Route 742 – Bridge over I-81, bridge deck maintenance. Single lane traffic with flagger traffic control. Bridge located .25 mile east of Route 11. Possible night time closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
* Route 764 – Road construction from Route 730 to Route 758. Flagger traffic control. Completion is June 30.
* Route 781 – Bridge over I-81, bridge deck maintenance. Single lane traffic with flagger traffic control. Bridge located between .11 miles west of Route 780 and .47 miles east or Route 11. Possible night time closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
* Route 923 ( Hildebrand Circle ) – Road closed to thru traffic off of Route 792 ( Balsley Road ) beginning Tuesday, June 17th for bridge replacement. Signs will be posted in advance. Estimated completion is July 31st.
* Route 1319 ( Westminster Drive ) – Trucks entering highway from work site between Route 1360 and Route 608 for roadway construction.
* Route 1612 (Beagle Gap Run) – Trucks entering highway from work site off Wild Cat Cove between Wild Cat Cove and Beagle Gap Forest for roadway construction.
* Various Roads – Mowing, scraping dirt roads, brush cutting. Cleaning ditches, shoulder repair.
* (NEW) Various Roads – Paving, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pilot truck and flagger traffic control. Completion is late July.
