Random Shootings on Interstate 64
This morning on Interstate 64, at the Ivy exit 114 and the overpass at Va. 690, one or more suspected shooters targeted and shot four different vehicles. Two passenger cars, a van, and a tractor-trailer were hit. An unoccupied Virginia Department of Transportation truck was also hit at a Yancey Mills substation. The shooter(s) injured two motorists who were treated and released from Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville. The victims were injured in the neck and the shoulder during the incident.
The shootings took place at 12:10 a.m. and appeared to be randomly targeted. The gunfire ended around 12:40 a.m. The Interstate between Waynesboro and Charlottesville was closed for several hours, mostly due to collecting evidence. It was reopened at 6:37 a.m.
Police continue to investigate. No arrests have been made.
