Car Hit By Train - December 23
At 3:06pm on 12/23/07 the Waynesboro Police department, Fire department and First Aid Crew, responded to a report of a vehicle that had been struck by a train on North Poplar avenue. Upon arrival, a red 1993 Nissan 4 door was observed in the ditch near the railroad tracks. The driver of the vehicle, 24 year old Megan Williams from Waynesboro, and her mother, 56 year old Francis Johnson from Waynesboro, had been ejected from the vehicle. A 4 year old boy was also in the vehicle at the time of the collision. He was found secured in his child seat in the rear passenger area of the car. Rescue crews were able to free the 4 year old from the vehicle within minutes of their arrival.
All occupants were taken to AMC for initial treatment. At this time the 4 year old child has been taken to UVA for further treatment of a head injury. Williams and Johnson are currently at AMC receiving treatment for their injuries and they are listed in stable condition.
This accident is still under investigation at this time.
