Car Wreck N Charlotte Waynesboro - April 21

Hit and Run / Felony DUI

Waynesboro Police have charged a city resident with 3^rd offense DUI (felony), Felony Hit and Run and Driving while License Suspended as a result of traffic Crash that occurred at approximately 12:47 A.M. on April 21, 2007.

A vehicle operated by Eduardo Servin – Navarette, 33, was traveling South on N. Charlotte Ave. when he lost control and crashed into the railroad underpass in the 300 block.

Servin – Navarette fled the scene on foot leaving a visibly injured passenger in the vehicle. He was later apprehended in the area of N. Bayard Ave and Identified by witnesses who were at the scene. Mr. Servin - Navarette was transported to the Police Department and subsequently held without bond on the charges at Middle River Regional Jail.

The injured passenger who is identified as Demetio Guiterez – Castillo, 43 was transported by Rescue Squad to AMC.

'Third Fridays' Waynesboro - April 21

Live music in downtown Waynesboro marks the return of Third Fridays. The monthly concerts will now take place in the former Sharon Bookstore on west Main Street. The music of was performed by Little Dark Town.. Third Fridays takes place at 7:00 every 3rd Friday night of the month.

Derrick Wayne Stevens, white male, DOB 09/18/1984

He has failed to report to jail after his appealed was denied. The original charges and conviction that he appealed where:

2 counts of attempted murder, - Augusta County (Virginia State Police) 12/22/2005

1 count of hit a run - Augusta County (Virginia State Police) 12/22/2005

Stevens received a total of 20 years, 8 suspended which leaves 12 years to serve. Stevens appealed the Augusta County Circuit Court's finding. His appeal was denied after which he failed to report to the Middle River Regional Jail. The Circuit Court issued a capias on 4/5/2007. This was the case that invovled Jeremy Chad Grooms.

TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF April 23-27, 2007

Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (NEW) Exit 94 (westbound) – Lane closures to repair the Continuous Count Station at 0.25 mile east of the ramp from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night, April 23 and Tuesday night, April 24.

* Exit 221 – Bridge painting on eastbound ramp over Interstate 81. Shoulder work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday with no traffic disruptions. Alternating lane closures on Interstate 81 north and south Monday through Thursday 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.

* Mile marker 220 to mile marker 237 – Debris cleanup April 2007.

* (NEW) Various locations – Vegetation management with mobile lane closures Monday, April 23 from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weather permitting.

Primary Roads

* Route 250 – Expect delays due to trucks entering from Route 636 between Route 637 to Route 358 Monday through Saturday.

* (NEW) Route 262 – Vegetation management with mobile lane closures Monday, April 23 from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weather permitting.

* (NEW) Route 340 – Vegetation management with mobile lane closures Monday, April 23 from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weather permitting.

* Route 340 (Rosser Avenue) – Trucks entering from worksite from Route 608 to Route 1501 for utility work in the street with flagger traffic control during daylight hours Monday through Saturday.

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 641 – Paving from 0.07 mile west of Route 1319 to 0.12 mile east of Route 608 with lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

* (NEW) Route 646 (Fadley Road) – Bridge repair from 1 mile east of Route 42 to 1 mile west of Route 699 Wednesday, April 25 and Thursday, April 26 with no delays planned.

* Route 646 (Fadley Road) – Shoulder improvements from 1 mile east of Route 42 to 1 mile west of Route 699 Monday, April 23 with single lane closure using flagger traffic control.

* Route 646 (Fadley Road) – Road closed Monday, April 30 through Friday, May 25 for bridge deck replacement from 1 mile east of Route 42 (Scenic Highway) and 1 mile west of Route 699 (Centerville Road). Westbound traffic should detour using Route 699 north to Route 42 south to Route 646. Eastbound traffic should detour using Route 42 north to Route 699 south to Route 646.

* Route 650 (North Oak Lane) – Road closure over South River due to bridge replacement from Route 624 to Route 664 with signs posted through October 15, 2007. Traffic detoured on Route 624 ( Mt. Torrey Road ) and Route 664 ( Lyndhurst Road ).

* (NEW) Route 699 – Machining dirt roads north of Route 613 Monday, April 23 through Wednesday, April 25.

* Route 705 – Surface treatment Monday, April 23 through Friday, April 27 with flagger traffic control.

* Route 716 – Road open to traffic between Route 250 and Route 629. No work is scheduled for April 22 through April 28.

* Route 727 ( Wolfe Ridge Road ) – Road closure due to bridge replacement in the town of Sangersville through August 10, 2007. Signs will be posted and a detour will be in place.

* (NEW) Route 753 – Machining dirt roads north of Route 613 Monday, April 23 through Wednesday, April 25.

* (NEW) Route 774 – Ditching from Route 775 to Route 608 Monday, April 23 through Wednesday, April 25 with one lane open.

* Route 935 – Expect delays due to trucks entering from worksite from Route 608 to Route 1043. Signs will be posted. No work Monday, April 23 through Friday, April 27.

* (NEW) Route 1319 – Paving from Route 250 to Route 641 with lane closures from 7 a.m .to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

* (NEW) Route 1325 – Paving from Route 285 to 0.22 mile west with lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

* (NEW) Various Roads – Paving with lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday in the following subdivisions: Augusta Farms Subdivision, Dahland Subdivision, Featherstone Manor Subdivision, Greenview Subdivision, Jefferson Court Subdivision, Kingswood Meadow Subdivision, Meadow Run Subdivision, Summerfield Subdivision, Vesper View Subdivision and Westover Hills Subdivision.
