October 31, 2007

The Staunton Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of Walnut Street shortly after 6:00 p.m. on this date. Two victims suffered gunshot wounds: a ten year old male and a male in his mid-twenties. At this time the injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Highway work zones in the Staunton District

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 93 to mile marker 95 – Alternating lane and shoulder closures at the underpass on Route 834 (Hickory Hill) and over railroads at mile marker 95 due to cleaning and painting bridge 24 hours a day Sunday through Saturday, except from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 3.

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205 to 237 – Debris pickup Wednesday, Oct. 31. Bridge sweeping with left lane closure Monday through Friday.

* (NEW) Mile marker 214 to mile marker 218 – Guardrail installation with right shoulder closures southbound from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

* Various Bridges – Bridge deck maintenance north and south one lane closure Monday night through Friday morning from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Death On 340 - October 25



October 25, 2007 - 10:00 pm Route 340 17-year-old Travis Brian Williamson was Killed in a car wreck south of Grottoes.The State Police believe that a bald rear tire caused him to hydroplane on the wet road and lose control of the car. When the car went off the road and into a ditch it hit a tree. Williamson died at the scene, he was not far from where he lived.

Trailer Fire - October 24







October 24 2007- 12:09 am Lyndhurst Rd. A fire damaged a trailer on the property of Waynesboro Nurseries.
The fire damaged the end of the trailer heavily on one end.The fire started in an office, but went through the rafters leaving smoke damage throughout. The trailer was used as offices, sleeping quarters and a kitchen for employees of the nursery. The three people that where in the trailer at the time of the fire got out with no injuries.

Staunton Police Department News Release - October 22

NEWS RELEASE

October 22, 2007

The Staunton Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred in the 100 Block of Greenville Avenue at approximately 2:30 pm on October 19, 2007.

The victim was approached by a black male who forcibly took $50.00 from the victim.

The suspect is described as a black male, over 6’ tall, 270-300 pounds,

wearing a blue “basketball type” shirt and blue pants with a white stripe down the sides.

The suspect left the scene in a maroon colored vehicle.
