TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF July 28 - August 1, 2008

Highway work zones in the Staunton District



The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath , Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland , Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

No lane closures reported.



Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 174 to 237, northbound and southbound – Sign repair. Mobile work zone, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Mile marker 174 to 237, northbound and southbound – Mowing. Mobile work zone, 24-hours per day, Monday to Friday.

* Mile marker 210 to 200, southbound – Ditch cleaning, right shoulder closure, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday.

* (NEW) Mile marker 237 to 205, northbound and southbound – Shoulder repair at ramps, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.



Primary Roads

* Route 11 – Mowing as well as litter and debris pickup.

* (NEW) Route 42– Mowing in the Swoope area.

* (NEW) Route 250 Afton Mountain – Shoulder repair from the Waynesboro City Limits to I-64. Work scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

* (NEW) Route 250 – Mowing in the Swoope and Fishersville areas.

* (NEW) Route 252– Mowing in the Swoope area.

* (NEW) Route 254– Mowing in the Swoope and Verona areas.

* Route 254 – Bridge deck work over I-81. Flaggers controlling traffic with possible lane closure, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* (NEW) Route 256 – Mowing in the Verona area.

* Route 256 – At Route 276, final cleanup. Lane closures with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Minor delays.

* (NEW) Route 262 – Mowing in the Swoope and Verona areas.

* Route 262– Debris and litter pickup on Wednesday.

* (NEW) Route 262 – Mowing in the Swoope and Verona areas.

* Route 612 – Litter pickup on Wednesday in the Fishersville area.

* Route 612 – Bridge over I-81, bridge deck maintenance. Single lane closure, possible, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Possible night time closures, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Route 616, bridge over I-81 - Bridge deck work. Possible single lane closure, flagger traffic control, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Route 621 ( Sandy Ridge Road ) – Trucks entering highway from work site between Route 823 and Route 611 for roadway construction.

* (NEW) Route 635 – Shoulder repair.

* (NEW) Route 648 – Spot leveling.

* Route 696 – Road closed for reconstruction project from Route 11 to Route 748 in Mount Sidney area. Expected completion is August 15.

* Route 701 ( Howardsville Road ) – Sewer construction, Route 11 ( Lee Jackson Highway ) to Route 655 ( Walnut Hill Road ). Right lane and shoulder closures. Completion is August 1.

* Route 742, bridge over I-81 - Bridge deck work. Possible single lane closure, flagger traffic control, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Route 781 – Bridge deck work over I-81. Possible single lane closure, flagger traffic control, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* (NEW) Route 795 – Patching during weekdays.

* Route 865 ( Rockfish Gap Road ) – Bridge replacement. Closed Monday, July 28 at 8 a.m. until Friday, August 22 at 5 p.m. between Route 612 ( New Hope-Crimora Road ) and Route 617 ( Roundhill School Road ). Detour: Northbound traffic takes Route 612 west to Route 782 north to Route 617 east to Route 865. Southbound traffic takes Route 617 west to Route 782 south to Route 612 east to Route 865. Detour and Road Closed signs will be posted.

* Route 994, bridge over I-81 - Bridge deck work. Possible single lane closure, flagger traffic control, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Possible night time closures, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Route 1319 ( Westminster Drive ) – Trucks entering highway from work site between Route 1360 and Route 608 for roadway construction.

* Route 1612 (Beagle Gap Run) – Trucks entering highway from work site off Wild Cat Cove between Wild Cat Cove and Beagle Gap Forest for roadway construction.

* (NEW) Fairfield Drive – Survey marker work from Fairfield to end of state maintenance.

* Various roads – Shoulder repair, ditch cleaning, pipe cleaning, , brush cutting, scraping dirt roads.

* Various roads – Paving, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pilot truck and flagger traffic control. Completion is late July.
